Hexfolk Play

A board game for friends

Board game night, all week long.

Build a little island town with your friends, make deals, break a few, and take your turn whenever you have a minute. It all lives on your phone, so nobody has to clear an evening.

Invite-only for now. Plays in your browser, installs like an app.

How it feels

One game. One week. A few grudges.

A game runs over days, a turn here and there. Here’s how a week usually goes.

  1. Hexfolknow

Your turn! Dana was busy while you slept.

Mon · · on the bus

    Your turn, whenever

A nudge says you’re up. Two taps, one sneaky build, done before your stop. Quiet hours keep the buzzing out of bedtime.

  2. Hexfolk2 min ago

Maya wants to trade. Honestly? Not a bad offer.

    Tue · · lunch break

    Make a deal

Offer a swap to one friend, the whole table, or everyone except whoever’s winning. They counter, you counter back, or you just answer from the notification.

  3. We had a DEAL.
    Did we, though?
Wed · · the group chat

    Break the deal

Chat pops up as comic bubbles right on the table, with quick reactions for when words fail. Missed the drama? A replay shows what happened while you were away.

  4. Three dark-sailed ships crossing a stormy grey sea.
Thu · · sails on the horizon

    Trouble from the sea

Every so often something big sails in, and it doesn’t care who’s winning. Suddenly your rivals are your only friends. For about a turn.

  5. Tomleft the game

    Tom’s seatstill playing, suspiciously well

    AI
Fri · · someone storms off

    The rage quit

A bot takes the empty seat and plays it to the end. It bargains and builds like anyone else, plays fair, and never, ever helps the leader.

By Sunday, whoever was last on Tuesday is gloating in the chat. Luck turns. Nobody forgets.

The chat

Half the fun is the chat

The table talk is built right in, from the lobby to the last roll.

    • A raccoon rubbing its paws together, clearly plotting something
    • A kitten staring wide-eyed with its mouth open in shock
    • A small dog giving a long, suspicious side-eye
    • A cartoon rage face flipping a table

    GIF search powered by KLIPY

    GIFs for every betrayal

A pack made for steals, deals and wins, with a “Right now” row that matches what just happened. Search a huge GIF catalogue, star your favourites, and tap one to send it.

  • Call someone out

Type @ and a name. It shows up in their colour, and they get a notification.

  • One-tap reactions

For when words fail: a thumbs up, a laugh, a gasp, a sheep or a fire, straight from the quick chat.

  • Bubbles on the board

Messages pop up as comic bubbles next to whoever said them, on the map or in a corner. Or keep them quiet in the log.

  • A status line

Tell the table what you’re up to. Keep it cryptic. Keep it petty.

The good stuff

Your table, your rules

All the little things that make a long game with friends actually fun.

  • House rules, by vote

Start friendly, chill or cut-throat, then fine-tune. Anyone can suggest a change in the chat, and the table votes 👍 or 👎.

  • Pick the map together

Everyone browses the maps and votes before the first move. Anyone can draw up a new one.

  • Replay what you missed

Back after a day? Watch every roll, trade and build since you left, with play, pause and speed. Or replay any single turn from the log.

  • Dice you can hear

Every roll tumbles across the board with a proper clatter, then the cards fly to whoever collected.

  • Stats and awards

Who kept the table waiting, whose dice were cursed, points over time, and awards like the Slowpoke.

  • Undo honest mistakes

Mis-tapped? Take your move back before the turn moves on. A slip of the thumb shouldn’t cost a game.

  • Make me an offer

Offer to one friend, the whole table, or everyone except the leader. Or put your cards up, let everyone bid, and pick the best.

  • Say no, secretly

Offers you don’t answer can decline themselves after a random wait, so nobody can tell whether you said no.

  • Nobody stalls forever

See how long the table has waited for someone, and when their move will play itself.

  • Bots when friends are busy

Fill empty seats with bots and start with just one friend. Or play a whole game against 2–5 bots that runs right on your device. They plan, trade, and never help someone who’s about to win.

  • Lots of tables at once

Hop between games with a tap, get a nudge when you’re up elsewhere, and give each one its own look.

Looks

Four looks. Pick your mood.

Each look restyles the whole game, right down to the trees. Five backdrops apiece, and tint the whole app any colour you like.

  • A painted fishing village on a calm pink sea at dawn.

    Artisan

    Warm, painterly storybook island.

  • A tiny low-poly town with red roofs and a clock tower on a pale background.

    New Edge

    Bright, crisp and geometric.

  • A floating island drawn in glowing neon lines against a starry purple sky.

    Neon

    Synthwave night, glowing lines.

  • A rainy night port with container cranes lit in teal and red.

    Cyberpunk

    Rain-slick chrome and hazard tape.

Pick a face. Set a status. Start trouble.

32 pixel-art faces to play as, from sailors and bakers to one very smug slime, and eight player colours that never look alike.

Made for phones

Right there in your pocket

  • Speaks Hebrew, too

Every screen in English and Hebrew, right-to-left done properly. Everyone at the table sees their own language.

  • Installs like an app

Add it to your home screen for full screen and real notifications. No app store in the way.

  • Nudges you control

Only your turn, every turn, or everything, plus quiet hours. On Android and computers, answer a trade right from the notification.

  • Same seat, any screen

Sign in with Google in one tap. Start a turn on your phone, finish it on the laptop.

  • Roomy on big screens

On a computer the board fills the middle, your games sit in a sidebar, and shortcuts do the rest: R to roll, B to build, T to trade, E to end your turn.

  • Light or dark

The warm Artisan look comes in light and dark. Pick one, or let it follow your phone.

The story so far

It started in a group chat.

A group of friends kept saying the same thing: we should play more. But getting everyone around one table on the same evening never happens. So one of them stopped talking about it and started building.

Hexfolk has grown up inside that same chat ever since. The friends play it, break it, argue about the rules, and the next version shows up with their ideas in it. Plenty of what’s here exists because someone asked “can it do this?” at one in the morning.

It’s a one-person side quest from PixeLabs, where the usual output is tools. This time, a game. See what else is in the lab.

Want a seat at the table?

Hexfolk is invite-only while it grows up. Send a note, say who you’d play with, and I’ll save you a seat.
